MD: FBI says Howard County man tried to join ISIS, targeted Jewish sites in Columbia

Federal authorities said Howard County, Maryland resident Michael “Teekaye” Junior self-radicalized online, sought guidance and logistical support from ISIS operatives, and attempted to travel abroad to join a terrorist organization before his 2024 arrest at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Investigators cited social media posts showing him training with weapons, an unsuccessful attempt to purchase a 9mm assault rifle, communications with an undercover officer, and online searches for Jewish individuals and institutions in Columbia as evidence that he had taken concrete steps toward violence. Prosecutors acknowledged his youth and mental health history but argued that the evidence demonstrated a serious public-safety threat, leading to his conviction.
