The campaign encourages Americans to take practical preparedness steps, including:

• Knowing evacuation routes.
• Signing up for local emergency alerts.
• Downloading the FEMA App.
• Building an emergency kit with essential supplies.

FEMA frames preparedness as both a civic responsibility and a way to support first responders by helping families, neighborhoods, and communities better withstand and recover from natural disasters.

San Diego Police and the FBI announced that a 17-year-old North Carolina resident was indicted in connection with the May 2026 Islamic Center of San Diego shooting. Authorities said the investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies and led to charges of three counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Prosecutors allege the teen helped record and distribute the attackers’ livestream, release their manifesto, and provide a hate-symbol patch worn by one of the attackers during the attack. Officials emphasized that supporting deadly shootings without participating can still carry serious criminal consequences.
