CAIR to Release University Campus Islamophobia and Free Speech Report

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) announced the forthcoming release of a report examining Islamophobia and free speech issues on university campuses. The report is expected to document incidents affecting Muslim students, including harassment, discrimination, and challenges related to expressing religious or political identity. CAIR frames the report as an effort to highlight patterns in how Muslim students experience campus climates, particularly amid heightened geopolitical tensions, and to assess how universities balance protections against discrimination with commitments to free expression. The organization states that its findings are intended to inform university administrators, policymakers, and campus safety stakeholders.

Analyst Comments: Like reports focused on Jewish or Christian students, the underlying issues of CAIR’s report are not solely ideological but operational: universities are increasingly challenged to manage religious discrimination complaints, protest activity, and free-speech disputes simultaneously. Reports like this can influence campus policy discussions, security planning, and student conduct processes, particularly where religious identity intersects with political expression. The key takeaway is the importance of consistent standards, clear reporting mechanisms, and proactive engagement with faith communities to reduce tensions and prevent escalation, regardless of the religious group involved.

Catholic Vote Tracker: Church Attacks

The advocacy group CatholicVote maintains an interactive map documenting reported attacks on Catholic churches across the United States since May 2020, starting with unrest following the death of George Floyd and continuing through early 2026. According to the tracker’s latest update, there have been at least 548 separate incidents of vandalism, arson, graffiti, property destruction, illegal disruptions of Mass, and other hostile acts against Catholic parishes and properties. A significant spike in attacks followed the 2022 leak of the Supreme Court draft opinion that overturned Roe v. Wade, with roughly 381 attacks occurring after that leak. These incidents are mapped geographically and include location details, photos, and descriptions, helping visualize where attacks have occurred and their nature. The map shows incidents in 43 states plus Washington, D.C., with higher concentrations of attacks noted in places such as California, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas. CatholicVote’s analysis notes that only about 30% of cases have led to an arrest and calls for stronger enforcement of federal protections for houses of worship.

Analyst Comments: The tracker’s interactive map format helps stakeholders visualize not just the volume of incidents but their geographic distribution, which can be useful in assessing risk patterns, planning security resources, and communicating with campus or community partners about trends in religious property attacks. Security and risk teams often find that layered, location-based data supports decisions around resource prioritization and community engagement strategies.
