At Kingston Community Schools in Kingston, Michigan, officials say a threatening message made against the school was found to have been generated by artificial intelligence (AI) using a student’s photo. The district’s superintendent stated there is “no credible or ongoing threat” to students or staff and the district is working with law-enforcement to ensure safety. The Kingston Village Police Department identified the students involved, who were removed from the school, and referred the matter to the Tuscola County Sheriff’s office.
Analyst Comments: This incident shows the growing and concerning trend of the use of AI in generating or fabricating threats, misinformation, or harmful content. In this case, AI was reportedly used to create a threatening message using a student’s image, amplifying the seriousness of the threat and making it appear more credible. Even when such threats are later determined to be false or fabricated, they cause significant fear, disrupt learning environment, and divert law enforcement resources.
AI technologies, particularly image and text generation tools, are becoming more accessible to young users, often without full understanding of the ethical and legal implications. This situation underscores the urgent need for digital literacy education that addresses responsible AI use, as well as enhanced school policies around technology misuse. Law enforcement and educators are now being challenged to differentiate between credible threats and AI-generated hoaxes a task that requires technical expertise and rapid coordination.
A strong storm system moving eastward from the interior Southwest into the Plains will bring an elevated risk of severe thunderstorms, flash flooding and travel disruptions to areas from Texas through Missouri and Arkansas. The system is expected to tap into warm, moist air pulled north from the Gulf, which will fuel intense thunderstorm development beginning Thursday in regions such as eastern New Mexico, northwestern Texas and southwestern Kansas. As it progresses, rainfall amounts could reach 4–6 inches in spots from eastern Oklahoma into northeastern Louisiana, creating a significant flash-flood potential especially in urban areas, terrains with rapid drainage, and along small streams. Motorists along major interstates (such as I-30, I-35, I-40, I-44) and campers in the Ozark Mountains are specifically advised to exercise extra caution due to steep terrain, underpasses and water-flow risks.
Analyst Comments: This developing storm system underscores the increasing volatility of late-season severe weather across the Central United States. The combination of Gulf moisture, strong upper-level winds, and shifting temperature gradients is producing the type of dynamic environment that can lead to both flash flooding and severe thunderstorms, including hail and damaging winds. Urban areas and regions with poor drainage are at heightened risk, as even a few inches of rain can quickly overwhelm stormwater systems. Residents and travelers should remain alert to evolving forecasts and heed local emergency alerts, especially along major travel corridors like I-35 and I-40. Communities in flood-prone zones should review their emergency plans, avoid driving through standing water, and prepare for possible short-notice warnings or evacuation guidance. Coordination between local emergency management, meteorological agencies, and the public will be key to minimizing impacts as this system moves through the region.
