Independent and Private Schools Address Unique Cybersecurity Threats

From EdTech item:

“Westminster Christian School CIO Omar Valerio is so focused on cybersecurity that he’s essentially turned his office into his very own security operations center. Two video displays mounted on his walls and four desktop monitors provide real-time views of network traffic and security monitoring tools that alert him to potential threats. For Valerio, security is paramount because K–12 schools face a continuous onslaught of cyberattacks. Cyberthieves target schools because of the valuable student and employee data they house and because they view them as easier prey for ransomware, phishing and other attacks.”

Analyst Comments:

Faith-Based Organization (FBO) with educational operations face additional cybersecurity issues. As the article states, schools are a target for cyberattacks because of all the data they maintain.

FBO’s should consider reviewing the article for cybersecurity methods that may pertain to their own operations. As always, Faith-Based ISAO’s website provides resources in the Resource Library, including information on Protecting Digital Assets.
