Demonstration Alert: Reykjavik (Iceland), Pro-Palestinian Protest Outside U.S. Embassy, May 15 (example of available resource)
The Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) alerts are pass throughs from US embassies and consulates. For incidents, the alerts usually provide:
- Location
- Event description
- Actions to take
- Assistance provided by US Department of State
Analyst Comments:
While few, if any, Faith-Based Organization (FBO) members will be in Reykjavik today, most FBO members will travel overseas at some point. Protests and other activities that may be of concern to US citizens will also continue.
FBO members traveling overseas for any reason should consider utilizing OSAC’s resources.
Also, the US Department of State also provides useful resources for overseas travelers:
- The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program(STEP) will provide real-time information and alerts specific to your travel itinerary and make it easier to locate you in an emergency overseas.
- Travel Advisories for individual countries can be found at Travel Advisories (state.gov).
- A wide variety of information to make international travel safer can be found at the State Department’s International Travel
