- Preliminary Post Incident Review (PIR): Content Configuration Update Impacting the Falcon Sensor and the Windows Operating System (BSOD). This is CrowdStrike’s preliminary Post Incident Review (PIR). We will be detailing our full investigation in the forthcoming Root Cause Analysis that will be released publicly. Throughout this PIR, we have used generalized terminology to describe the Falcon platform for improved readability. Terminology in other documentation may be more specific and technical.

FB-ISAO’s 19 July 2024 Daily Awareness Post reported on the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) event caused by the defect in a single content update for Windows hosts. As a result of this non-malicious/accidental disruption, bad actors may take advantage of the turmoil. FBOs should consider reviewing CISA’s cyber essentials to defend against possible cyber threats.
