As temperatures drop and winter approaches, ministry buildings that don’t have safeguards in place could be inundated with trouble due to frozen, burst pipes. The flood of damage can lead to unusable facilities and stressful repair processes.
The post details the following guidance before temperatures drop:
- Insulate Pipes
- Inspect Supply Lines & Hoses
- Install a Flow-Based Automatic Water Shut-Off Device
- Have a Plan for Power
The post details the following guidance when freezing temps are in the forecast:
- Set the Thermostat
- Leave Faucets on a Trickle
- Check the Property Regularly
- Maximize the Reach of Warm Air
The post also provides a Bonus Tip – When freezing weather is in the forecast, don’t forget to remove outdoor hoses from spigots.

While Faith-Based Organizations (FBO) face hostile physical and cybersecurity threats, to remain protected and resilient, FBOs should consider planning and preparing for “routine” hazards. FBOs should consider reviewing the Winterize Now post and other maintenance guidance to ensure their facilities remain operational.
