‘Kill All the Jews’: FBI Investigates Attack at New York Kosher Restaurant as Possible Hate Crime

A violent assault occurred at Sezam, a kosher restaurant in Queens, New York, where a group of Jewish diners were brutally attacked in what is now being investigated by the FBI as a possible hate crime. The incident began around 1 a.m. when an individual confronted a woman who had allegedly taken her handbag, prompting a vicious assault by two women and several men at a nearby table. The attackers beat the woman and her husband, yelling antisemitic slurs, including threats to “kill all Jews.” Despite serious injuries and antisemitic threats, the NYPD classified the incident as a simple assault, not a hate crime, and no arrests have been made.

Analyst Comments: We continue to see a surge in crimes targeting the Jewish community. The attack shows the physical danger and the trauma that hate-driven assaults can impose on victims and communities. Given the rise in hate crime and antisemitic violence it is important to consider going out in groups, sharing your location, knowing where emergency exits are located, and avoiding poorly lit areas. Harassment should always be reported to the proper authorities.

NYC mass killing raises new security concerns for corporate America

A deadly mass shooting in a Midtown Manhattan office tower has driven corporate America into significantly reconsider able security protocols. Coming off the heels of the December assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO this incident has accelerated a sea of change in executive protection and threat-prevention strategies. Security firms report skyrocketing demand for risk-assessments. Experts warn that many office buildings remain alarmingly underprepared, lacking basic detection equipment such as metal detectors, panic buttons, and alert systems. Due to these two high-profile shootings this had led corporate America to elevate and rethink physical security, invest in threat monitoring, and bring in professional protection for executives.

Analyst Comments: The two shootings have been wake-up calls to industry leaders, revealing the need to up security in corporate environments to secure individuals that can be targeted. Faith-based organizations also face vulnerabilities as HOW often host large gatherings that are open to the public making them soft targets. Some considerations for corporate businesses and HOW are to view threat assessments and access control, emergency alert systems and drills, threat monitoring, and leadership security.

FirstFT: Canada and Mexico lead last-minute talks as Trump tariff deadline looms

As the August 1st deadline approaches, Canada and Mexico are at the forefront of last-minute negotiations with the Trump administration to avert proposed steep tariff hikes. The U.S. has issued new “baseline” tariffs up to 35% for Canada and 30% for Mexico and the EU. While some trading partners have reached the agreed to lower tariffs, Canada, Mexico, India, Brazil, and China remain under scrutiny and risk facing punitive rates if deals fall through. The U.S. has signaled no intention to extend the deadline.

Analyst Comments: The looming August 1st tariff deadline represents a pivotal moment for U.S. trade relations under the Trump administration’s “baseline tariff” policy. With Canada and Mexico two of America’s largest trading partners. If tariffs were imposed this would hit critical industries like automotive, agriculture, and manufacturing. It is important that businesses are aware of the potential rise in tariffs and are prepared by considering reviewing supply chains, communicating with suppliers, expect potential price increases, and watch commodity prices.
