Christchurch terrorist discussed attacks online a year before carrying them out, new research reveals

The Conversation followed up a 2020 royal commission report on the 2018 Christchurch mosque attacks.

The Conversation’s research reveals that the perpetrator “For at least four years, then, (perpetrator’s name omitted) contemplated and planned on killing people in a location of emotional importance such as a school or place of worship.”

Analyst Comments:

Perpetrators of Hostile Events do not “snap”.  There are many signs and indicators of a possible attack. Recognizing these indicators and signs may prevent an attack.

In September of 2023, NBC 4 Washington reported how a possible shooting at a Northern Virginia church was stopped because someone reported troubling online posts.

Gate 15’s White Paper: The Hostile Event Attack Cycle (HEAC) by Dave Pounder provides a detailed explanation of the attack cycle.  Faith-Based Organizations should consider familiarizing themselves with indicators and signs of a possible attack to prevent or defend against an attack.
