Update to 1 August Headline

Former student fired gun at Jewish school, shot by police

The Jerusalem Post reports that the shooter at the Margolin Hebrew Academy-Feinstone Yeshiva of the South in Memphis was a former student.

According to Memphis Police Assistant Chief Don Crowe, the shooter was stopped by double security doors.

Crowe praised the school’s actions and said, “Thankfully, that school had a great safety procedure and process in place and avoided anyone being harmed or injured at that scene.”

Analyst Comment:

Many Faith-Based Organizations (FBO) operate schools. Monday’s shooting at the Margolin Hebrew Academy-Feinstone Yeshiva of the South serves as a positive example of an FBO successfully mitigating a hostile event due to effective security policies and measures. The double security doors, security policies, and emergency actions plans and procedures kept the active shooter from killing or wounding the occupants of the school. This incident is an excellent example to use when making the “business case” for security, such as greater resources and time commitments.
