FB-ISAO Event – Discussion on ISIS-Related Plots in Europe and the Potential for Similar Targeting in the Homeland

At the end of December 2024, the DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis released an Intelligence in Brief titled, “Increase in ISIS-Related Plots Against European Houses of Worship Likely To Influence Similar Targeting in the Homeland” in which DHS noted an increase in ISIS-related plots and attacks against European churches and synagogues since the onset of the Israel HAMAS conflict. DHS also noted that there is a likelihood of similar target selection in the Homeland. Since the conflict in the Middle East escalated with HAMAS’ attack on 7 October 2023 there have been several notable attempts or references to the change.

Though FB-ISAO is not aware of any specific imminent threat at this time, vigilance and preparedness are key. Join the FB-ISAO and John Cohen for a discussion on the topic of ISIS-Related Plots.

John Cohen is the Executive Director of the Program for Countering Hybrid Threats at the Center for Internet Security. In that role, John works closely with law enforcement, mental health, and civil society organizations across the Nation to address issues relating to the impact of social media and the Internet on crime, violence, community safety, and constitutional protections. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Georgetown University Security Studies Program. Mr. Cohen has an extensive background in counterterrorism, including serving as an Assistant Secretary at DHS, and Senior Advisor at ODNI.
