FEMA: Nonprofit Security Grant Program – National Security Supplemental Subapplicant Quick Start Guide

From the FEMA website:

The NSGP is a competitive grant program appropriated annually through DHS and administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). It is intended to help nonprofit organizations increase their physical security posture against acts of terrorism or other extremist attacks.

,,,

Interested nonprofit organizations (subapplicants) must apply to the NSGP-NSS through their State Administrative Agency (SAA) (the applicant). New for NSGP-NSS, nonprofit organizations can apply individually or as a group of subapplicants through a consortium application. Each SAA has an established application submission process with a state-specific deadline to submit all required materials. The application submission deadline in FEMA’s NSGP-NSS NOFO applies to the SAA only—NOT nonprofit organizations or consortium. You will need to contact your SAA point of contact on state-specific deadlines and supplemental application materials or requirements unique to your state or territory. The list of SAAs can be found at: https://www.fema.gov/grants/preparedness/state-administrative-agency-contacts.

Analyst Comments:

Grants can be a great aid to Faith-Based Organizations (FBO), but the application process can be confusing. Those applying for grants should consider reviewing the application procedures.  An FBO may have the greatest need for a grant but will not receive the grant if their application does not meet all the process requirements.

The 21 February 2024 Faith-Based Daily Awareness Post provides suggestions for a successful grant application.

Analyst Comments:

Members of the faith community that wish to improve their personal safety in person and online should consider attending the Pennsylvania Office of Homeland Security’s virtual training. The 24 October 2024 Faith-Based Daily Awareness Post highlighted the vulnerability of faith community members when they can be identified in public and shows the need for this training.
