FBI investigating Florida incident as ‘an attempted assassination’ on Trump

Analyst Comments:
A civilian witness saw something and not only said something, but they also took a photo of the vehicle and license plate. This action and their reporting to local law enforcement facilitated the capture of a would-be assassin. This is a good example of DHS’ If You See Something, Say Something®.
DHS provides How to Report Suspicious Activity. They advise that witnesses should provide the 5Ws:
- Who or what you saw;
- When you saw it;
- Where it occurred; and
- Why it’s suspicious.
They also provide links to local tip lines but emphasize that if it is an emergency, call 911.
Cyber security guidance for high-profile individuals
The New Zealand government’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) released cyber security guidance for high-profile individuals. The guidance outlines best-practice cyber security measures. It explains what high-profile means and details several ways to secure yourself against common threats, including identifying your digital assets, having good password hygiene, and enabling multi-factor authentication.
- Download the guidance here
- Download the cyber uplift plan and checklist here
- Read a condensed web version of the guidance here
Analyst Comments:
Leaders of Faith-Based Organizations (FBO) and their members may find themselves “high-profile individuals”. The October 7 Hamas attack and its upcoming anniversary, the ongoing Hamas/Israel Conflict, and current campaign season can put FBOs and their members in the spotlight.
While the NCSC guidance was created for New Zealanders, it can be part of a robust cybersecurity posture. It can be beneficial to receive security suggestions from different perspectives.
